Precautions for the Use and Maintenance of Lifting Chains

As an indispensable and critical lifting device for cranes, lifting chains can be adjusted in length according to the lifting height of the load. This plays a vital role in enhancing crane operational efficiency and expanding its working range. So, how should lifting chains be maintained and serviced?
1. The tension of the lifting chain should be appropriate. Excessive tension increases power consumption and accelerates bearing wear; insufficient tension causes chain bounce and derailment. The correct tension is achieved by lifting or pressing the chain at its midpoint, resulting in a deflection of approximately 2%-3% of the center distance between the two sprockets.
2. If new lifting chains are excessively long or elongate with use, making adjustment difficult, links may be removed as needed—but only in even numbers. Links should be removed from the back of the chain, with the locking plate inserted outward and its opening facing opposite the direction of rotation.
3. Do not mix old lifting chains with partially new chains during operation, as this may cause impact during transmission and lead to chain breakage.
4. Remember to lubricate lifting chains promptly during operation. Lubricant must penetrate the clearance between rollers and inner sleeves to improve operating conditions and reduce wear.
